They come to see them learn new skills and put them to good use. They come to see a gifted main character on a quest fraught with adversity. Shonen (manga and anime aimed at younger boys and male teens) often gets a bad rap for being too formulaic, but the majority of fans like it that way. And when it comes to shonen, that's not necessarily a bad thing. When Miyazaki came out of retirement, it felt like normal service had been resumed. Sure, there were some strides made over the last decade (the popularity of Yuri on Ice was a step forward for gay representation in the anime industry, for example), but looking back, things didn't really change all that much. See this one out, enjoy the ride and I guarantee this will become a firm favourite of yours. At the time, the 2010s felt like a real period of change in the world of anime. Hiyao Miyazaki released his farewell film, 2013's The Wind Rises, and Makoto Shinkai broke records with 2016's Your Name, a beautifully animated romantic drama about two teens who keep inadvertently switching bodies. This passing-of-the-torch moment dominated much of the conversation around the midpoint of the decade, but, just like he's done on several occasions over the years, the Studio Ghibli co-founder changed his mind. #BEST ANIME OF 2017 MAL SERIES#
It managed to turn a big time action and science fiction fan like me into a believer that there is great romance series out there. It is one of the funniest and most charming anime I've ever seen. However the story spans several years and this allows for real character and relationship progression. Yes at 96 episodes it is long for the genre. If you look over this because it's of older animation then you really don't know what an incredible experience you've missed out on. Maison Ikkoku is the finest romance anime ever made, in terms of story structure, character development and emotional depth. As stated previously, this is a list for series only! Anime that were originally released as multiple episode OVA series will be considered, however no outright anime movies will be included! This is not a list for anime movies! DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND I HAVE PROVIDED A BRIEF REVIEW FOR EACH ANIME ON THE LIST. You think this would be common sense but you'd be surprised how many great series are overlooked because of the photo or a poor description. Never judge whether to watch an anime by its description or picture. As someone who has been watching anime for multiple years and has seen several hundred series I can appreciate when an anime has true legitimate merit. I have watched all of these to completion and can confirm they are certainly worthwhile viewing. You will need to research some series on anime review sites as IMDb has limited information on anime. An anime can only be considered for this list upon being completed, if you want a list of good ongoing anime please go somewhere else. I took many as you can see by my description, this is not a list for most popular anime only. I didn't take just one factor into consideration.

This list of "Top 100 Anime Series Of All Time" will feature what I consider to be the 100 greatest anime series ever made.
